Property ownership in Mumbai benefits from modern technology, just like any other sector of the Indian economy. A legal document, the property card (or Malmatta Patrak), has made regulatory compliance and maintenance of assets simpler in recent years. Issued by the Government of Maharashtra or the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM), it serves as proof of your property ownership, verifies your transactions, and tax compliance. For authorities as well as property owners, it’s the ultimate document to trace ownership details, encroachments, cultivation information, and litigations.

Since the digitisation of land record services in Maharashtra, the property card has become a crucial document. Purchase and sale of property, access to information related to your land, or settlement of property-related disputes today are all less of a hassle now.

It becomes clear that if you are an existing property owner in Maharashtra or are looking to invest in land in Mumbai, possessing this property card is non-negotiable. In this article, you’ll come to learn about how to apply for a property card, what it consists of, the importance of having one, and more. Let us understand.
