Housing is what lends a sense of enduring security and safety to any person. Whether you manage to build one right up from the ground with savings or home loans, it's the most fundamental milestone anybody plans for.

The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) was launched in 2015 with the policy aim of providing housing to the urban poor, rural poor, and other economically backward groups. As per the Yojana:

  • PMAY (U) or PMAY (Urban) provides housing for the urban poor
  • PMAY (G) or PMAY (Grameen) caters to the rural poor
  • Beneficiaries of this program are eligible for house loan subsidies and assistance for enhancing their homes
  • Their income category determines the amount of the due subsidy.

For the Union Budget 2026, funds allocated to PMAY (Grameen) stand at ₹54,916 Crore. With an increased budgetary allocation, construction applications also spike.

Verifying an applicant's eligibility and personal information takes time. Additionally, implementing the subsidy can take up to four months after verification and approval. Therefore, tracking the progress of the PMAY application becomes crucial. That's where the assessment ID comes in.

Through this article, we elaborate on the role the assessment ID plays in PMAY. We also focus on eligibility, the enrolment process, and tracking methods for the PMAY. Let us understand.

Assessment ID in PMAY: What Is It?

A special ID or unique number is created for each application submitted to avail the benefits of the PMAY. This is called the assessment ID.

The applicant can later check the status of their application using the assessment ID on the PMAY website.

  • Enables applicants to track updates on their application
  • Empowers applicants to claim subsidies under the scheme
  • Supports smooth communication with government authorities

How to Get Your PMAY ID Online?

Follow these steps to get your own unique assessment ID:

  • Navigate to the official PMAY website
  • Find the option titled “Citizen Assessment”
  • Choose the category you fall into (ST/SC, destitute, legally released bonded labourer, manual scavenger, etc.)
  • Put in your Aadhaar number, contact information, and other details
  • On submission, your PMAY assessment ID is displayed on the screen

Save a screenshot or keep a printed record of the ID.

You can also get your unique ID offline by visiting a Common Service Centre (CSC) nearest to your location or the municipal office in your area.

Eligibility for Applying to PMAY

Much before the assessment ID is generated, you’ll need to confirm whether you meet the eligibility requirements for applying to the PMAY.

  • Applicant has to be a first-time homeowner
  • Applicant has to belong from Economically Weaker Section (EWS), Low-Income Group (LIG), or Middle-Income Group (MIG)
  • Applicant must not be the owner of a pucca house in the country
  • Applicant's income must fall within the ceiling specified under PMAY(G) and PMAY(U), respectively
  • Applicant must not have received benefits under other housing schemes

How to Track Your PMAY Application Status?

Here’s how you can track updates to your submitted PMAY application:

  • Step 1: Go to the official PMAY website.
  • Step 2: Select the “Citizen Assessment” menu, and choose "Track Your Assessment Status" from the drop-down.
  • Step 3: Select By Name, Father's Name, & Phone Number.
  • Step 4: Fill out the name of the state, district, city, mobile number, and parents’ names.
  • Step 5: After filling out all the information, click the submit button. You will be shown the status of your application.

You can also check the current status of the application using your assessment ID:

  • Step 1: Click the By Assessment ID option on the Track Assessment Form screen.
  • Step 2: Enter your mobile number and PMAY assessment ID.
  • Step 3: Click the submit button. The screen displays the status of your application.

Types of Application Updates

Updates may be of three types:

  • Under Review: Your application is being reviewed and is yet to be approved.
  • Approved: Your application has been given the green light for a subsidy claim.
  • Rejected: Your application does not meet the criteria for a subsidy claim.

How to Check Your PMAY Application Status Offline

You can talk with the regional office overseeing the PMAY project at your municipal administration to find out how your PMAY application is going. Applicants can also call the Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO) or the National Housing Bank (NHB) at their toll-free numbers with inquiries about the CLSS.

Conclusion

If you have enrolled for this beneficial PMAY scheme, your assessment ID is a number you’ll need even after your house has been built. In the initial stages, it helps track your application status. Double-check all information you furnish at every stage to avoid rejections or delays in the processing of your application.

Once the application has been approved, you're ready to plan your new home while ensuring financial stability in the long run. If the financial support offered by PMAY falls slightly short of your planned pucca house, feel free to opt for home loans at competitive interest rates. It’s not every day that you’ll build one. .
