The Central Government of India offers affordable housing units to its employees under the General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) Scheme. Central government employees moving to a new city or expecting a promotion can apply for a GPRA quarter through the e-Sampada portal. The allotments depend on the applicant’s requirements, eligibility, and available vacancies.

The portal makes the application and allotment process transparent, efficient, and straightforward. Read on to learn more about the scheme and how to apply for one through the available portal.

What is eSampada?

eSampada is a single-window platform through which users can access various services related to the allotment of GPRA estate services and residential quarters. It offers an intuitive interface for citizens and government employees to access various estate services, including allotment, retention, and vacation of properties. The platform aims to enhance transparency, efficiency, and ease of access in estate management. It integrates several government housing and estate services into a streamlined online system. eSampada also has a mobile app that lets users apply and check the real-time status of their application.

What is eAwas?

While e-Sampada is an online portal to allocate residential units to eligible candidates, e-Awas is the primary software handling the entire process of online house allotment. The primary objective of this software is to facilitate fair, corruption-free, transparent, and paperless house allotments to eligible government employees.

What is GPRA?

The GPRA's full form is General Pool Residential Accommodation, a government scheme aimed at providing residential housing to government employees across 63 cities and 353 localities in the country. The CPWD (Central Public Works Department) and DoE (Directorate of Estates) administer the GPRA scheme, allowing quarters to eligible employees per the Central Government General Pool Residential Accommodation (CGGPRA) Rules, 2017.

The GPRA scheme is open to employees of central government, and in certain cases to statutory and autonomous bodies. Housing allotment for each category depends on a 'unified waiting list,' and the department accepts applications through an Automated System of Allotment (ASA).

Types of GPRA Quarters

GPRA quarters are classified by type, based on the employee's pay level:

  • Type I to III: Allocated to lower-grade employees and junior staff. These units include essential facilities for comfortable living.
  • Type IV: Allotted to middle-level officers. More spacious than lower types, with standard amenities.
  • Type IV (Special) to VI: Reserved for senior officers and high-ranking officials. These are larger units with better facilities.

Eligibility for GPRA Accommodation

To apply for GPRA quarters through eSampada or e-Awas, an employee must:

  • Be a central government employee on a regular payroll.
  • Fall under the eligible pay level for the desired quarter type.
  • Not currently hold any other government accommodation at the same station.
  • Not own a residential property in the same city as the posting.
