The government of India made the PAN card Aadhaar card link mandatory for all eligible PAN holders. The PAN Aadhaar link last date was June 30, 2023. After this date, PAN cards that are not in compliance become inoperative. However, those who missed the deadline can still link Aadhaar with PAN online by paying a late fee of Rs. 1,000 via the e-Pay Tax facility on the Income Tax e-Filing Portal.
Notably, PAN and Aadhaar, a 12-digit unique identification number UIDAI-issued number, are required for both financial transactions and tax filing.
Note: For new PAN applicants, Aadhaar-PAN linking is done automatically at the application stage. The mandatory linking requirement applies to existing PAN holders allotted PAN on or before July 1, 2017.
